‘The Motor Kings’ is a dramatic piece, cementing itself as an Australian picture though its strong cast of lower-middle class ruralite’s, and the underprivileged streets and workplaces that make up some of its many disconnected country towns. The aim of the film is to engage and create a viewpoint into this environment through Rose, the main protagonist and emotional centre of the film. With her older age and more experienced world view, we aim to attract an audience of between thirty to fifty years old, those that will be attracted by the film’s cold aesthetic and noticeably darker tone. Furthermore, our approach to marketing the film will be centred on its Australian roots, shooting in suburbs such as Dandenong and Moe while avoiding the gentrified areas of Melbourne and other surrounding neighborhoods.
As the producer for ‘The Motor Kings’, we aim to create a film that demonstrates lower class struggle beyond the vail of many Australian features. Through the viewpoint of a character such as Rose, the viewer is placed into a world of lost potential and disparaging hopelessness while one strong woman continues to move on. Her need to survive despite her increasing doubts and insecurities allows the audience to follow along with her and seethe day to day struggles that thousands are forced to face. While the end of the films is tragic, the story is of a one woman trying her best to change her life for the better.
